Reviews: This is simply some of the finest Boston HC ever released. Imagine, if you will, the sound of early SSD and DYS, made even more hectic and intense by Choke's screaming, spitting covals, and Dave's clean, lightning-fast rolls on the snare. The guitar seems a bit quiet at first, but somehow works its way to the foreground after repeated listenings. These are intensely personal lyrics, though hard to decipher (still no lyric sheet, Taang!). There are straight-edge songs, war songs (dealt with on a personal level), a couple slow droners and some blazing thrashers, and it's all enjoyable. This is a must for anyone who likes original (recorded in '82) Boston HC. A good buy. -Brian Trudell (from Ink Disease #10, Winter 1985) Although recorded three years ago, Negative FX's first and only (as they are long disbanded) release pack more punch than most "thrash-o-matic" bands around these days. Throughout, the power is full on whether the songs be lightning fast thrashers ("Hazardous Waste") or medium-paced onslaughts ("Feel Like a Man"). NFX being the first band for Last Rights vocalist Choke, one can plainly hear his developing, highly emotional and gruff vocal attack. The same adjectives hold true for the rhythmn section of drummer Dave and bassist Richie with ton of muscle guitarwork from the mighty Pat. Few bands possessed the live intensity of NFX and thumbs up to Curtis for documenting the greatness. -Mike Gitter (from xXx #12, Fall 1985) Even though this is ancient material from a band long gone, it is representative of one of Boston's finest outfits at its time. Holding the distinct Boston characteristics heard in GANG GREEN, SSD, DYS, and more, NEGATIVE FX packed strong musical combustion with hoarse vocal deliveries. Rapid, powerful, and totally enjoyable, NFX is a classic Boston band but this should have come out at its time before all the duplications arose. -Pushead (from Maximum Rocknroll #28, September 1985) |
