Reviews: Now only Arkansas, Hawaii and New Hampshire need to be heard from in order to round out the state by state hardcore comps. When all is sand and done this one will most likely be somewhere towards the top of the heap. Nine bands, with two songs apiece, power their way from Hoboken to Jersey City, leaving no Springsteenite standing in their wake. Fear not, you don't have to be from New Jersey to appreciate songs like "N.J. is a Mall" by Cyanamid or "Wendy O." by Bodies in Panic. And what comp from New Jersey would be complete without the ever remarkable Adrenalin O.D., pushing speedcore to the borders of Atlantic City without even stopping at White Castle for dollar sized burgers with extra grease in order to satisfy our appetites. -Steve Alper (from Ink Disease #10, Winter 1985) Nine Garden State beauties (A.O.D., STETZ, CHILDREN IN ADULT JAILS, SACRED DENIAL, MY 3 SONGS, CYANAMID, PLEASED YOUTH, BODIES IN PANIC, BEDLAM) blossom forth in a well-cultivated comp. No rotten tomatoes here--just plump pickins. Jersey's finest. -Tim Yohannan (from Maximum Rocknroll #27, August 1985) |
