Reviews: Destined to be the SoCal album of the year- 11 great songs that show versatility in playing and insightful and meaningful lyrics. MIA can very confidently thrash then turn right around and slow it down, like the title song "Murder in a Foreign Place". One hell of a record!!! -Al Flipside (from Flipside #43, Fall 1984) When I first heard this, I was a bit disappointed, but after only a couple more listens, those distinctive MIA characteristics clearly emerged--a tight, powerful instrumental attack, hooks galore, flashes of hot guitar work (especially on "Used to Know Me"), plaintive, evocative lead singing, intelligent themes, and some haunting background vocals (in "Modern Way" and "Boredom Is the Reason"). So you'd be a jerk not to go out and buy it, you know? -Jeff Bale (from Maximum Rocknroll #14, June 1984) |
